Career Pathways in Health Informatics

Career Pathways in Health Informatics

As part of the wider programme of work to professionalise and support the development of informatics specialists, the NHS Wales Health Informatics Service and the former English Department of Health Informatics Directorate worked together to develop the Health Informatics Career Framework (HICF) which describes the Health Informatics profession in the same way as clinical and other professions in health and care.

The HICF is an online toolkit that provides information about career pathways in Health Informatics, including examples, as well as additional tools to help individuals plan their own careers and managers with team and individual staff development.

The approach is consistent with other career frameworks in health, enabling individuals to plan and develop their careers within and across  frameworks.  The HICF has been developed for use across the UK and it is applicable to individuals providing services to the NHS and other health and care organisations as well as those actually employed in health and care organisations.
