Continuing Professional Development
At registration, your competence is assessed against the level that you apply for. The purpose of the CPD process is to help you maintain or develop that competence.
You will be asked to identify your development needs at registration. These may be:
- Necessary to maintain competence
- Necessary to increase competence to meet the needs of a higher level of registration in 12 months time
- Aspirational to meet a specific career goal, e.g. a job you wish to apply for
- Aspirational to meet your own personal goals
For each need you will be asked to identify the area you wish to develop and specific topics to be addressed, the activity to be undertaken, how long and how important the activity is.
This is the basis of your CPD plan which you expect to follow for the next twelve months.
At the end of the year we will ask you the following questions about each planned activity:
- Did you do it?
- Did you finish it?
- Did it meet your development need?
- If not, is it ongoing?
- If you abandoned it, why?
We may also ask you to provide evidence to justify your end of year review.
Finally we will ask you to write a new plan for the next year.
