Biography:   Ray studied medicine at Cambridge and Guy's Hospital and has been in post as a full time Rheumatologist at the Teaching Hospital in Southampton since 1985. During that time he has developed an interest in the application of IT to both healthcare and medical education. After authoring a CDROM on rheumatology which was published by Cambridge University Press, Ray created an interactive teaching website on the subject for medical students and others with an Arthritis Research Campaign (arc) grant in collaboration with colleagues in the Faculty of Computing Science at Southampton University. He is Clinical Lead for the Musculoskeletal and Trauma & Orthopaedics Specialist Collections of NHS Evidence, provided by NICE, having formerly worked in the same capacity for the National Library for Health since 2001.  He is also a member of the NICE Technology Appraisal Committee. Ray was a joint winner of an NHS Leadership in Health Informatics Accolade Scheme award in 2004 for developing an electronic record application for rheumatology in Southampton.
