UKCHIP Structure
The UK Council for Health Informatics Professions (UKCHIP) was originally formed in 2002 with the purpose of establishing Health Informatics as a profession across the United Kingdom.
The objectives of UKCHIP are:
- To be the registration and certification body for individuals practicing in all branches of Health Informatics in the United Kingdom;
- To promote, advance and encourage the study and practice of the application of Informatics in the promotion of health, well being and dying with dignity;
- To establish, uphold and improve the standards of qualification, training, competence and conduct of Health Informatics professionals in the United Kingdom;
- To establish mechanisms for the benefit and protection of the public;
- To collaborate with official bodies, societies and professional associations on matters relating to the profession of Health Informatics.
UKCHIP is incorporated as a Company Limited by Guarantee registered in England & Wales, Number 4771281, and operates on a not-for-profit basis.
All elected Council members are registered as members of the company for the duration of their election to Council.
Day-to-day business is managed by a board of directors appointed by the company members. Individual directors are responsible for a defined area of UKCHIP business:

The directors are supported by working groups comprised of members of Council and invited others.
The secretary and registrar support the directors in the various business matters.
